BigCommerce Pricing Plans (2023): How Much Should You Pay With BigCommerce?

BigCommerce (read our full BigCommerce review) serves
as a way for legitimate businesses to make a smooth transition to online sales.
By legitimate, I mean that the majority of BigCommerce plans provide
comprehensive tools and product options to turn your already profitable or
scaling business into something special.

So how much does BigCommerce cost? Is it more
expensive or cheaper than the competition? That’s what we’re here to find out,
so keep reading to learn more about BigCommerce pricing from the monthly plans
to the themes and integrations.

What
is BigCommerce?

BigCommerce is an eCommerce website building platform,
focused on supporting beginners in their quest to build the ultimate website.
Founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2009, BigCommerce has evolved over the years
to become one of the most feature-rich platforms available, with everything
businesses need for search engine optimization, store creation, marketing and
security.

BigCommerce is a SaaS “hosted” premium
e-commerce solution, which operates on the software-as-a-service business
model. In other words, when you pay to access BigCommerce, you are not buying a
version of the software, but instead “renting” the platform to help
you sell your products online.

What
can you expect to pay for BigCommerce?

·      Standard
plan: $39 per month

·      Plus
plan: $105 per month

·      Pro
plan: $399 per month

·      Enterprise
Plan: Custom pricing

A BigCommerce store price starts at $39 per month for
the standard plan. The Plus plan is available for $105 per month, and the Pro plan
comes in at $399 per month. The service offers a 15-day free trial, which is
good for testing whether you have any interest in BigCommerce at all.

In short, BigCommerce has more features in its
standard plan than most platforms provide in their higher plans. Even so,
figuring out which of the BigCommerce plans is right for you and how much you
can really expect to pay in the end gets a little tricky.

That’s why I’m putting together a detailed breakdown
of every little fee and payment you can expect with each plan. I also explained
who each plan is designed for. Keep reading to find out which one is best for
you.

What
you get with all BigCommerce Pricing

Designing the perfect online store can be an expensive
and time-consuming process.

The more features you want access to, from real-time
editing systems in your back-end, to an abandoned cart saver, and integrations
with amazon and ebay, the more you pay. But while most tools for e-commerce
platforms require you to pay more for additional services, some tools are
cheaper than others.

Buying BigCommerce Enterprise or other high-level
plans from BigCommerce like BigCommerce Pros will cost you more due to the
company’s pricing model. But when you consider the amount of advanced features
and extra functionality you get, from social media buttons to reporting tools,
gift cards, api calls, and priority support, you can quickly see how valuable
the plans can be.

Regardless of your pricing model, you still have
access to:

·      An
incredible one-page checkout: Make your checkout fast and seamless for your
customers, with a simple checkout tool to collect credit card and PayPal
payments.

·      Unlimited
Products: No matter how much you pay on your BigCommerce pricing plans, you’ll
be able to host unlimited products with all the file storage and bandwidth you
need. There are no limits to worry about, even with the BigCommerce Standard
Package

·      Responsive
Website: Ideal for SEO purposes, BigCommerce provides you with a responsive
website that looks perfect on desktop and mobile.

·      Real-time
shipping rates: Getting products to your customers quickly is critical if you
want to succeed in e-commerce. Your BigCommerce plan will include access to the
lowest possible shipping rates.

·      No
Transaction Fees: Your BigCommerce monthly fee includes no transaction fee
requirements. It doesn’t matter if you use the pro plan or the plus plan.
However, you may have to pay something for the payment gateways you use.

·      24/7
Priority Support: BigCommerce ensures that all of its pricing plans come with
pro-customer support, including the standard plan. This means that you can
easily get answers to any questions you have.

Let’s take a closer look at BigCommerce’s pricing
model.

BigCommerce
Standard Plan

If all you need from your BigCommerce pro solution is
a selection of critical tools like a payment processor, checkout, and
high-level e-commerce platform, then you should get everything you need from
the standard plan.

The features are quite plentiful for such an
affordable plan from BigCommerce. To start, you get support for unlimited
products and storage, which means that even large business eventscan otherwise
use the Standard Plan and make it work. Accept credit card or PayPal payments
and pay the 1.5% transaction fee. This doesn’t include the credit card
processing fees, so it can add up if you’re not careful.

You can choose from dozens of design themes and use
the web-based web editor to build and modify the theme to suit your business.
Most themes are mobile friendly and the plan offers sales tools for SEO, social
media, blogging, gifting, coupons and promotions. The integration is wonderful
with options for connecting to Facebook, Square, SocialShop and Amazon. Not to
mention, you can set up product reviews, product searches, wishlists and more.

Who
is this price plan best for?

You now have the opportunity BigCommerce Standard Plan
is truly a unique breed, as it offers so much more than you would find on other
platforms that sell their starter or standard plans for beginners in the world
of online sales. I would argue that small to large businesses could all benefit
from this BigCommerce Standard Plan, as it comes with everything from unlimited
products to dropshipping integrations.

Smaller stores may even find this initial plan too
complex or expensive for their taste, so I would recommend that companies with
only a few dozen products look elsewhere for an online store solution.

BigCommerce
Plus Plan

You now have the option BigCommerce Plus Plan comes
with all Standard Plan features. Other additions include real-time provider for
accurate pricing, best possible payment providers and an abandoned cart saver.

Advanced customer segmentation is perfect for honing
in on the people you really want to target. Another cool bonus is that your
checkout page is on your domain, meaning customers are never redirected to a
third party payment page. This is good for getting customers to buy more. EBay
listings are supported, and the wholesale and retail pricing groups work well to
open up new revenue streams.

Price: $79.95 per month

Who
is this plan best for?

It’s really unclear if the Plus or Pro plans are
useful for all businesses. Since the beginning of 2016, BigCommerce made some
drastic changes with its pricing plans, adding the Pro account as you see below
and raising the prices for users who pass $125,000 in revenue per year.

Some of our readers have reported being forced into
the Enterprise plan, which can range from $900 to $1,500 per month. It really
seems like BigCommerce is trying to use the Plus and Pro plans to get people to
pay even more. Therefore, we honestly can’t recommend the Pro or Plus plans to
anyone until we start to see if Bigcommerce returns to its regular fixed
pricing.

BigCommerce
Pro Plan

Again, the BigCommerce Pro plan seems like the logical
next step for businesses looking to scale up, but those that surpass over 3,000
orders per year will be slapped with additional fees. Sure, you get everything
from previous plans, but that doesn’t negate the fact that BigCommerce’s
pricing model is dead.

Based on our reader feedback, you’ll almost be forced
into a more expensive Enterprise plan.

Price: $399 per month

Who
is this plan best for?

While $299.95 per month might sound nice, our readers
have spoken up and told us that many have drifted into the Enterprise plan and
increased prices to $900 per month, or even all the way up to $1,500 per month.
So right now we can’t say that the Pro plan is good for any business that wants
full clarity on how much their costs will be.

BigCommerce
Pricing: Enterprise Plan

If you’re looking for something truly customized from
your BigCommerce pricing, then you’ll need to check out the business plan.

You now have the option BigCommerce Enterprise Plan is
all about supporting high-volume businesses, and it includes all the features
talked about in the plans above. Not only that, you get custom settings and
data migrations, allowing you to work with your own business. Priority support
is always available for these customers, as your store is most likely a bit
more complex and you deserve priority help from the experts.

Note: Yes, the features and services are solid, but
the pricing is absurd. What’s even worse is that many of Bigcommerce’s
customers are forced into the Enterprise plan after exceeding certain earnings.
It’s actually not that rare in the industry, but the prices are way too high.

Either way, the advanced reporting tools are a nice
touch, and dedicated account management is available to sit down and
re-strategize your website and even hand off some of your website responsibilities
to an expert. Product filtering is one of my favorite features, and the
dedicated IP and SSL addresses protect your site and make you look more
credible. Once again, no transaction fees are incurred through this plan, and
product uploads are unlimited.

Pricing: You must contact BigCommerce for custom
pricing that fits your business

Who
is this plan best for?

The Enterprise plan should work well with fast-moving
businesses, but it turns out that so many customers are being squeezed into the
plan that we have a hard time approving it. Some of our reports state that
people are being charged up to $1,500 per month to exceed the $125,000 limit
per year. It’s not good at all.

Save
25% on BigCommerce Plans!

Choosing the annual plan for BigCommerce can save you
a lot of money. If you pay for the whole year in advance instead of making
monthly payments, you get a 25% discount on your package.

In February 2023, BigCommerce raised the prices of
Standard, Plus and Pro plans to $39, $105 and $399. However, if you pay for the
year in advance, your monthly costs for these plans will drop to $29, $79 and
$299.

What
are Bigcommerce Prices for domains and hosting?

You can choose to purchase a domain from BigCommerce
or transfer a previously purchased one from another service. The domains
generally run for around $12.27 per year. Many other domain resale sites like
GoDaddy have better prices, so feel free to check them out as well. All domain
support is provided here.

Hosting is provided with all BigCommerce pricing
plans. This includes enterprise security that protects both you and your
customers. Keep in mind that you will need to transfer or purchase an SSL
certificate from BigCommerce. Pricing varies, but you canexpect to fork over
$80 to $100 per year. Learn more about SSL certificates here.

What
about BigCommerce Pricing for apps and themes?

You now have the opportunity The BigCommerce platform
is known for its rich app store and versatile templates (here a selection of
the best BigCommerce themes on the market). For starters, the apps range from
everything from syncing your email marketing tools to setting up an affiliate
program. Many of these apps are free, but you can pay a one-time or monthly fee
depending on the needs of the app, for example, the S Loyalty app is free, but
the ReferralCandy app is $49 per month.

Themes are both paid and free. Many of the free
options are actually quite useful, but you can choose to pay from $100 to $250
for premium themes. As for the newest, most modern themes, BigCommerce plans to
release 67 modern options on March 23, 2016. They are available in the theme
store and they range from $145 to $235. We still haven’t tested them, but
presumably they provide modern merchandising- features to fully express the
power of your brand and grow your business.

That’s it to learn how much you can expect to pay for
the BigCommerce eCommerce platform. Right now, smaller businesses will get the
features they need for a reasonable price, but when you move to the Plus, Pro,
and Enterprise plans, BigCommerce has shown they’re not afraid of spiking rates
to an obscene level.

BigCommerce
Payment Providers

All BigCommerce pricing plans start with processing
fees of 2.9% + $0.30. This includes processing debit and credit cards.

You may also qualify for a special price via PayPal by
Braintree. It is best to speak with a BigCommerce representative to understand
all the requirements to be eligible for it. One of the requirements for the
special price is that you operate your business in the United States.

The specials from PayPal are as follows:

·      Standard
Plan – 2.9% + $0.30¢ per transaction

·      Plus
Plan – 2.5% + $0.30¢ per transaction

·      Proplan
– 2.2% + $0.30¢ per transaction

·      Business
Plan – 2.2% + $0.30¢ or less per transaction

As mentioned, we suggest you speak to a salesperson
for special pricing, but here’s most of the information you’ll need:

No matter what plan you pay for, you get a negotiated
rate. Therefore, most of your credit and debit card processing fees should be a
little lower on BigCommerce than they are on other platforms.

As you move up to higher plans, the potential for
lower prices increases. Also, the Enterprise plan can be lower than 2.2% +
$0.30.

Other than that, none of the BigCommerce plans charge
transaction fees. It’s just the processing fees you need to worry about.

Choosing
payment gateways that make BigCommerce Pricing more affordable

Obviously, there is an advantage to going with PayPal
through BigCommerce. There is a much better chance that your processing fees
will decrease over time and that you won’t have to negotiate the prices
yourself (not that the payment processors would allow it).

You can choose from over 65 integrated payment
gateways, some of which support countries and local payment methods worldwide.
In fact, your location plays a big role in which payment gateway you choose. Of
the over 65 gateways, BigCommerce supports options from over 100 countries and
250 payment methods.

Most of them have their own one-click setup, and you
could potentially find that another option like CyberSource or Authorize.net or
Adyen has more desirable pricing for your situation.

Important:

Many e-commerce platforms charge extra fees for using
third-party payment gateways. For example, Shopify charges nothing for its own
native payment gateway, but you get stuck with up to a 2% fee if you plan to go
with a third party. This is kind of rotten, especially since many companies
have to go with third parties based on their location or customer base.

BigCommerce, on the other hand, doesn’t charge a dime
for any of these third-party integrations. Sure, you might think that some of the
payment gateways have higher fees, but that’s where your own research comes in.
At least you can rest easy knowing that BigCommerce doesn’t charge an extra fee
either.

Some of the payment solutions through BigCommerce
include:

·      AfterPay

·      Authorize.net

·      BlueSnap

·      NetBilling

·      Skrill

·      Realex

·      Many
more

You can also go to this page and click on the best
payment solutions based on the country in which you do business.

For example, when I click on Italy, I can see that
some of these major payment gateways are supported in Italy:

·      2Checkout

·      Authorize.net

·      PayPal
is powered by Braintree

·      PayPal
Payments Pro

·      Skrill

·      WorldPay

BigCommerce
Pricing for experts and consultants

At some point, you’ll likely run into a situation
where you either don’t have the skills needed to make a change or development
to your eCommerce site, or your own developers are struggling with a problem.

Whether you need to build a brand new eCommerce website
or move some checkout elements around, the best option is to spend some money
on an expert developer or designer.

It can be a real pain to start searching places like
Craigslist and other job boards to find reliable developers. That’s why
BigCommerce has several programs to set you up with the right person or
business.

Talk
to a BigCommerce Consultant

Your first option to understand the BigCommerce
platform and perhaps get advice on plans and possible development strategies
are consulting programst. You could argue that this is basically a
sales/support line, but BigCommerce has a phone number (1-888-248-9325) for you
to call if this is all you need.

From our experience, this line of consulting will not
cost you any money. In fact, the whole point is to answer any questions you may
have without creating an environment that seems like you’re being sold to. So
if you have pressing questions about features or pricing, this is the phone
line you want to call.

Technical
support customization

Sometimes all you need is a little fine-tuning of your
colors or the movement of an image. Most smaller jobs don’t require a
specialist, so you can call the technical team to see what they can do for you.
The number for this team is 1-866-991-0872.

You can call in and discuss everything from
integrations to adaptations. They are known to help with tips and even
potential development assistance. I guess it all depends on who you get on the
phone, but at least you have one person to call when you need to start
troubleshooting. The reason I like this support line is because it’s completely
free and you might just be able to get some simple development help from them.

Not only that, but you may not realize that the task
you are asking about is quite easy and can be completed by yourself. So you
will learn something and do these fixes yourself in the future.

You
now have the opportunity BigCommerce Partner Program

Most of the expert help we’ve highlighted so far is
free. So where would you stop spending money?

With BigCommerce Partner Program.

This is the site you should go to if you need serious
help building, customizing or growing your website. In short, the partner
program leads you to the right people for every job you might have. There is no
need to go to an online job board and mess around with the crapshoot that is
the internal hiring site.

All of these experts are vetted and recommended by
BigCommerce. In fact, many of the developers and design firms are well versed
in working with BigCommerce either exclusively or frequently. Therefore, they
know the ins and outs of the system and take most of the design and development
work away from you.

What is the reason you can pay for an expert like
this? Well, you might have to build a whole new store from scratch. Or maybe
you’re looking for a full-service ad agency to get the word out about your new
product. Maybe you’re more interested in a product development expert who
guides you through the process of creating and releasing a new article.

Whatever your situation, BigCommerce experts are there
to help. These experts are divided into two groups: Agency partners and
technology partners.

Pricing depends entirely on the company or individual
you join, but here’s an explanation of the difference between the two:

·      Agency
partners – For when you need help with your paid advertising and marketing.
These people are there to boost your SEO and work on conversion rates. The idea
behind it is to get someone who knows more about advertising and marketing than
you.

·      Technology
Partners – For when you’re looking to add an element to your design or when you
need to customize the shopping experience. The technology partners are
essentially third-party integrations. So, you won’t necessarily be working with
a designer, but you will get some reach out from a representative from the
software you’re trying to integrate.

Let’s start with the pricing for Agency Partners. Some
of the categories include designers, developers, ad agencies, marketing
services and e-commerce consultants.

Most companies don’t post prices on the BigCommerce
website, so you’ll have to call them to make sure. Having said that, it all
depends on the scope of your project and which company you choose to go with.
Some smaller projects might only be a few hundred dollars, while a full
redesign or something more complicated with your customization can come in the
10-15k range or even higher.

Some of the technology partners include Shogun, Rivet
Works and Lucky Orange, and categories include options such as merchandising,
payments, CRM and shipping.

Again, it depends on the integration you’re trying to
connect to. You usually don’t pay for the integration, but for the service you
integrate with. This is similar to how many of the BigCommerce apps work.

For example, you don’t have to pay any money to
integrate with Shogun Page Builder. But the actual Shogun Page Builder service
starts at $49 per month after a free trial.

Another example would be Insightful by Beeketing
analytics integration. Again, they won’t charge you to make that connection to
BigCommerce, but after a 30-day trial, you’ll have to make payments of $20 per
month.

Overall, it’s important to remember what types of
extra payments you may need to make in the future. Hopefully, all of these
expenses will allow your store to expand and grow to make even more money.

How
about BigCommerce App Pricing?

The price you pay for BigCommerce can vary depending
on not only the package you choose, but the extras you choose to include in
your plan. Tools like BigCommerce make it easy to access all the tools they
need to start a successful business in one place. But they also allow businesses
and entrepreneurs to add additional features through add-ons.

BigCommerce offers a range of add-ons and apps to
enhance your online sales. These tools range all the way from payment systems
like Square, to email marketing tools. While some applications are free to use,
the rest will require an additional monthly fee or a one-time purchase.

Square
for BigCommerce

If you want to upgrade your shopping card with more
payment options for your customers, then Square can help with that. The Square
app for BigCommerce integrates with your existing website to connect your point
of sale in the physical world with your digital store.

You can easily import your product catalog from Square
to BigCommerce and use the sync feature to keep track of your product
availability as well. If you already use Square for your offline sales, this
could be an excellent investment. There is no need to pay any initial fees, but
you will have to pay Square transaction fees and use them as a payment
processor.

Lightspeed
by Kosmos

Lightspeed Retail is another option for connecting
your point of sale and BigCommerce Store. There is a 14-day free trial to get
started, and Kosmos will then have a recurring fee of around $150 to consider.
The Kosmos solution aims to let you sell more products in different places,
including on Amazon, eBay and Google shopping.

You can list your products with multiple sizes and
colors, choose standard products or matrix items, and more. There is also an
inventory synchronization option to prevent the risk of stockouts and reduce
overselling issues if you shop online and offline at the same time. Lightspeed
too

Bindo
POS

Bindo is another handy POS option that connects your
e-commerce website to a digital store. The BigCommerce Bindo integration
ensures that you can synchronize all your customer data, product information
and reports in one place. Create products in POS and your names, quantities,
prices, images and more are automatically synced with the service. Thanks to
real-time synchronization, if an item runs out of stock in store, it will
appear out of stock on your website as well.

BigCommerce and Bindo also share valuable customer
information so you can get to know your customers on a deeper level, segment
your sales strategies while improving your chances of long-term loyalty. Prices
start at around $89.

Other
apps for BigCommerce

It’s not just POS connector apps available to boost
your BigCommerce strategy either. You can get tools to help you with everything
from abandoned cart recovery to email marketing, social media selling and
faceted search for your ecommerce store.

The more you want to accomplish with your apps, the
more you need to spend on them. This price will go along with paying for things
like your domain name and hosting services.

How
about BigCommerce Pricing for Themes?

BigCommerce themes also have their own price tag
attached to them. If you want to capture the hearts and minds of as many
customer groups as possible, BigCommerce themes can definitely help. You can
find themes that have their own FAQs and google customer reviews sections, so
you can increase your chances of attracting the attention of your audience.

These themes also work perfectly with the BigCommerce website
builder, so you can customize your design to fit your small business and the
sales channels you use. BigCommerce themes can be quite expensive, ranging from
a few hundred to several hundred dollars.

The more expensive themes can often perform more SaaS
tasks, such as displaying dynamic information, or automatically adapting to
your site’s needs.

In addition to things like credit card pricing for
your website and point-of-sale tools, custom SSL certificates, and even domain
names, you’ll find that the theme price adds up quickly. Don’t forget that
startups may also need to factor in the additional costs of creating staff
accounts for a support team.

So
how much is BigCommerce Pricing going to cost you?

Obviously, there are a few things to consider when
figuring out BigCommerce pricing. From installing the perfect shopping cart
technology to accessing themes and plugins, even the best ecommerce platforms
have additional fees to consider. When planning to build your store, whether
it’s with a tool like BigCommerce, Wix, or WooCommerce, you need to make sure
you consider all the costs.

A BigCommerce Standard plan costs $29.95 per month. So
that is the least amount of money you will spend. When you start selling, you
have to factor in the processing fees per transaction.

The good news is that you don’t have to pay for any
hosting because it’s all included in your monthly fee.

In addition to that, you may have some expenses in the
form of themes and plugins. You can definitely find free themes and plugins to
keep your costs low, but I tend to think that most serious business people will
spend some money on at least one nice theme. So expect to pay around $100 for
that, then possibly another monthly fee for relevant plugins.
